Cross-Border Horse Race Boosts Tourism in North Central Timor

Jakarta. North Central Timor district in East Nusa Tenggara held a cross-border horse race on Nov. 26-30 to attract foreign visitors to the area.

Besides the horse race, visitors also got to enjoy other attractions in the area, such as Tanjung Bastian Beach, which is an hour's drive from Kefamenanu, and Wini Beach in North Insana district.

There are also religious tourism attractions, such as Bitauni Cave, a place of pilgrimage for all Catholics in Atambua, as well as the location for the Easter procession and rosary prayers throughout May and October.

"Geographically, North Central Timor borders East Timor and it is also near Australia. Stories about this event and the tourism destinations will spread via participants," North Central Timor head district Raymundus Sau Fernandez said, as quoted in a statement on Saturday (02/12).
