Gov't to Prioritize Four New Tourism Destinations
Jakarta. The government will focus on the development of four destinations in the ten prioritized tourism destinations, or 10 New Balis, a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism on Sunday (19/11) said.
The decision was made after a limited meeting between President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.
The destinations are Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara.
The plan includes homestay and restaurant development, in which the ministry will take charge of model design, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing will take the construction and the souvenir shops will be under the Ministry of Trade.
"The execution will be in 2018. I have sent a letter to the ministry before the limited meeting and have been instructed by the president to give the model designs," Arief said in the statement.
Arief added Lake Toba, Borobudur and Mandalika only need revitalization, while Labuan Bajo is considered as "a newcomer," thus it needs to be more developed.
