Indonesian Contemporary Artists Team Up for Charity Exhibition
Jakarta. A group of leading Indonesian contemporary artists will showcase their latest works in a new charity exhibition, entitled "Art for Education," which takes place at On4 Atrium in Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta, until March 31.
A collaboration between the luxury shopping mall and Art Dept ID, the exhibition is hosted at a pop-up space designed by Eugenio Hendro, an interior and product designer who currently helms the furniture brand Nook Living.
Inside the space, a stunning array of works by nine artists is on display. On one corner, Cecilia Patricia Untario's "Chandelier Series: Addicted" — an imposing chandelier-shaped structure made from glass bottles and brass — was hung, with photography pieces by Davy Linggar and Evelyn Pritt adorning the other side of the space.
Aditya Novali created a steel and plexiglass installation called "Platform," while drawings and paintings by the likes of Alberta Haryudanti and Reggie Aquara ooze a quieter vibe.
All of these works of art are up for sale, with the proceeds going to Indonesia Mengajar (Indonesia Teaches), a public education movement that annually sends well-trained teachers to schools located in remote areas of Indonesia.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday afternoon (14/03), Zamri Mamat, Plaza Indonesia's general manager of communication, said the exhibition was one of the events celebrating the mall's 26th anniversary.
"This is part of our efforts to support young creative talents in Indonesia," Zamri said, "whether they come from the fields of art, film or others."
