Jakarta. Indonesian cyclist Imam Arifin won stage seven of Tour de Singkarak from Harau Canyon to Padang Panjang in West Sumatra on Friday (24/11).
Imam finished the 112-kilometer race in record time of two hours, 56 minutes and 34 seconds.
"I did not expect to win this stage as the conditions were pretty rough. Around 50 meters to the finish line Muller was getting a bit unstable, so I pushed through and won the stage," Imam said.
The road cycling tour reportedly has given a boost to the economy in Padang Panjang.
"The event has brought a positive impact to the town. Hotels are fully booked and small businesses are raking it in. I hope next year Padang Panjang can host the start and finish of the tour," Mayor Indra Gunadi said.
All through stage seven, the cyclists were presented with a wonderful view of Harau Canyon. Famous for its row of waterfalls, the canyon is a leading tourist destination in the district of Limapuluh Kota.
