AUGUST 22, 2017

Jakarta. The main event of the annual Jazz Gunung Bromo music festival took place at Jiwa Jawa Resort Bromo's open-air amphitheater in Banyuwangi district, East Java, on Saturday (19/08).

The ninth edition of the festival successfully combined jazz swings with the beautiful scenery of Mount Bromo.

This year's event presented performances by the Sri Hanuraga Trio featuring Dira Sugandi; the Indra Lesmana Keytar Trio; the Ring of Fire Project featuring Idang Rasjidi and Soimah; the Sono Seni Ensemble; and Glenn Fredly.

The Sri Hanuraga Trio and Dira Sugandi played a set of traditional and national songs to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Indonesia's independence, which was celebrated two days earlier.

Festival founder Sigit Pramono said next year's event will take place over three days to cater to a growing audience.

"We started Jazz Gunung in a hotel yard with only 200 attendees. Now, the audience has grown to more than 2,000 people. We will add more acts next year so the number will keep increasing," Sigit said.

Esthy Reko Astuti, deputy for tourism development at the Ministry of Tourism, recommended that the festival organizers offer special packages consisting of the event and tours of tourist destinations around the famous volcano to make a greater impact on the local economy.
