Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo participated in the Sandalwood Horses parade and the traditional hand-woven fabrics, or tenun ikat, festival in Waetabula, Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday (12/07).

In a speech, Jokowi underlined the uniqueness of the province, which currently also hosts the Tour de Flores.

"It's diversity, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika [Unity in Diversity] that we should maintain," Jokowi said.

The president also expressed his hope for the sustainability of both the parade and the festival.

"They should be promoted well, through various social media platforms. ... Filmmakers should be invited to shoot movies with Sumba's landscapes in the background for the province to become known internationally," Jokowi said.

The president and first lady Iriana Widodo were accompanied by State Secretary Pratikno, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Frans Lebu Raya and Southwest Sumba district head Markus Dairo Talu.
