Lauv and Goo Goo Dolls Rock Java Jazz's Last Day

MARCH 06, 2018

Jakarta. New York-based singer Lauv and American rock band Goo Goo Dolls closed out the Java Jazz Festival in North Jakarta on Sunday (04/03).

The final day of the country's biggest annual jazz festival, which took place at the Jakarta International Expo, also brought a series of top local and international artists from various genres, including R&B singer Jhene Aiko, legendary pop and jazz singer Dionne Warwick and Vanessa William.

From being blown away with the jazz performances of Ron King Big Band and Paul Jackson to getting nostalgic with Indonesian songs from the 1980s, Java Jazz provides an opportunity for non-jazz artists to show off their talents and to promote their music.

The event grounds were packed with festival-goers who came to watch and support their favorite artists.

Worth the Wait for Special Performances

After Daniel Caesar’s performance on Saturday, the last day of Java Jazz Festival also featured two special shows from Lauv and Goo Goo Dolls.

An hour before Lauv’s show, thousands of fans stood patiently in front of the gate of BNI Hall. Some also brought posters with them.

One of the fans, Ramdha Nursari, came all the way from Samarinda, East Kalimantan, to watch his favorite singer.

"When I heard that he would have a show at Java Jazz, I immediately booked the ticket. I didn’t think twice. I can’t miss the moment I have been waiting forever for."

Fenny Hapsari also came to the show right after she landed at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

"I put my luggage in my friend’s car and came here. I am pretty sure I won’t be disappointed."

Other loyal fans were also willing to queue for hours to see Lauv’s performance.

At around 8:45 p.m., Lauv dazzled the audience with his hit single "Paris in the Rain," followed by "Comfortable," "I Like Me Better," "Question," "Easy Love," and "Adrenaline."

Lauv also requested the audience to turn on their cellphone flashlights while he sang "Breathe."

The singer ended his performance with his beautifully heartbreaking song, written in 2014, entitled "The Other."

One and a half hours later, American Rock band Goo Goo Dolls took the BNI stage.

The band rocked the audience with their upbeat songs such as "Big Machine," "Slide," "Rebel Beat," "Black Balloon," and "So Alive."

The band continued with slow, romantic songs such as "Bringing on the Light," "Come to Me," and "Sympathy," before giving the audience what they really seemed to demand, "Iris."
