Local Government Hopes to Boost Tourism in North Sulawesi's Sara'a Island
Jakarta. Sara’a Island in North Sulawesi is another must-see destination for tourists looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Indonesian archipelago. Boasting beautiful beaches and breathtaking coral reefs, the island is fast making its way into local and international tourists’ radar.
On Monday (03/07), the local government held the Sara’a Island Festival on the 15th anniversary of North Sulawesi’s Talaud Islands district to promote Sara'a Island as one of the prime tourist destinations in the province.
According to a press release received by the Jakarta Globe, the festival attracted around 5,000 tourists.
Talaud Islands district head Sri Wahyumi Manalip said local administrations have been trying to boost tourism in the district by organizing various events, promoting tourist attractions in the area and fixing local infrastructure.
"Our goal is to get more tourists into our district. Talaud has so much potential, so many beautiful, enchanting natural attractions," Sri said in a statement.
The head of North Sulawesi’s tourism office Daniel Mewengkang said the natural beauty of Sara’a Island is one of the region’s prized attractions, and a perfect candidate to be developed for cross-border tourism owing to its close proximity to the Philippines.
