Maluku Hosts Banda People's Festival
Jakarta. Banda Islands in Maluku is currently hosting the Banda People’s Festival until Saturday (11/11).
The festival is being conducted to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Treaty of Breda, which was an agreement between the Dutch and British to swap the island of Manhattan in New York for with Run Island in the Banda Islands.
"We want to highlight the deep history of Indonesia's important part in forming world's civilization," Esthy Reko Astuti, tourism development deputy at the Ministry of Tourism, said in a statement.
The event features carnival, music and dance performances, theater show, local culinary exhibition, handicrafts exhibition, writing class and historical talkshows.
The closing event will be the Treaty of Breda seminar, which will be held at the Hatta-Sjahrir Banda Neira School of Teacher Training and Education.
