Minister Discusses Strategy to Attract Foreign Tourists With TripAdvisor
SEPTEMBER 16, 2017
Jakarta. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya on Thursday (14/09) held an informal meeting with Stephen Kaufer, chief executive of US-based travel website TripAdvisor, on the sidelines of the 22nd General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, to discuss two upcoming events in Indonesia.
The events are the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting and the 2018 Asian Games 2018.
"I asked TripAdvisor to give a broader cooperation proposal, which will be expanded to more countries to [help us] achieve the 2019 target of 20 million foreign tourists," Arief said.
The IMF-World Bank meeting in Bali will be attended by 20,000 delegates, for whom the ministry has planned 30 tour packages to Bali and 60 packages to tourist destinations near the holiday island — Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara) and Banyuwangi (West Java).
Meanwhile, the Asian Games is estimated to attract 24,000 visitors.
The minister requested the company to provide a ranking list of the most effective organizations and media companies for attracting foreign tourists to Indonesia.
Kaufer said his company will promote Indonesian destinations such as Yogyakarta and Bali, and will share its web traffic data with the ministry.
