Ministry Takes Indonesian Tourism to China's Malls
Jakarta. The Ministry of Tourism held "Consumer Selling" on Tuesday (15/04) and Wednesday at the Grand View Mall in Guangzhou, which will later be held also at the Xizhimen Capital Mall in Beijing on April 22-23.
The event involved promoting travel packages to attract Chinese visitors to Indonesia.
"We have all been prepared to sell travel packages to Indonesian destinations, especially to the 10 priority destinations or the '10 New Balis,'" the ministry's assistant deputy for Asia-Pacific marketing development Vinsensius Jemadu said in a statement released on Thursday.
The ministry seeks to have 2,037,000 visitors from China this year. Last year, around 1.4 million Chinese tourists came to Indonesia, a 27.31 percent increase from 2015.
Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, which serves 52 flights from China and Hong Kong to Indonesia each week, also participated in the event along with its partner travel agents Cities Travel, Peace Travel, GDCTS, CTrip and Tong Cheng Travel.
At the Grand View Mall, the ministry set up a booth featuring promotional videos on an LED screen, music performed with violin and sasando (traditional harp-like instrument), and a photo booth whose design was inspired by the Jember Fashion Carnival.
Visitors were also able to enjoy a cup of coffee and peek at the beauty of Indonesian tourist destinations using a Virtual Reality (VR) headset, and take a quiz to win trips to Indonesia.
