Jakarta. Ballerinas of Namarina Youth Dance or NYD —a dance troupe under Jakarta’s oldest ballet school Namarina— performed "The Story of Man: In Search of A New Ideal" for a virtual showcase at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
As many as 18 young ballerinas from NYD and NYD Apprentice graced the stage with their moves. Originally created by Dinar Karina and Sussi Anddri, the new "The Story of Man" integrated collaborative choreographies by Rosawiranti and Irninta Dwitika.
It has been over a decade since Namarina last performed “The Story of Man”. The piece is making a comeback amid the Covid-19 pandemic because of its portrayal of the world's ongoing battle with the health crisis.
Beneath its majestic choreography and melody, every twirl and leap carries a deep meaning. “The Story of Man” illustrates how humans can adapt to the changing world throughout the different time periods, including the current “new normal” era.
This is Namarina’s first virtual showcase since it was established in 1956. To deliver a majestic performance, Namarina teamed up with experienced visual artists, sound and lighting engineers.
