National Film Body Praises Record-Breaking Achievement of 'AADC 2'
Jakarta. The National Film Body, or BPI, praised the record-breaking box-office achievement of "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2," the sequel to the popular 2002 teen flick, which has broken the 1-million-viewers barrier in only four days after its release last Thursday (28/04).
"We are all proud of the accomplishment of 'AADC 2.' This shows that other [Indonesian] films must also be produced properly and promoted well so more viewers can enjoy them," Kemala Atmojo, a member of BPI, told Antara on Tuesday.
According to him, the success of the Riri Riza-directed film—which stars Dian Sastrowardoyo and Nicholas Saputra—shows that local viewers will flock to the theaters to watch high-quality Indonesian films.
On Twitter, Nicholas, who plays the lead character Rangga in the film, expressed his gratefulness to fans and said he was "moved" by the film's achievement.

The film has been shown in 500 theater screens across the country to date—despite having to compete for screen time with Marvel's blockbuster "Captain America: Civil War" over the weekend.
This prompted a debate on whether the current regulation on screen-time quota—which stipulates that cinema operators must dedicate at least 60 percent of their screen time for six months consecutively to Indonesian films— should be reconsidered.
According to Kemala, the most pressing issue is to find ways for local films to get more screen time without harming the Indonesian film industry. "The ecosystem [of the local film industry] has to be maintained, so everyone can get their fair slice of the market," he said.
