Netflix Ventures Into Fashion With Sophia Amoruso's 'Girlboss' TV Series

FEBRUARY 05, 2016

Jakarta. Streaming giant Netflix is targeting fashion-minded viewers by ordering the "Girlboss" comedy series, which was inspired by fashion entrepreneur Sophia Amoruso's best-selling autobiography.

The television series is a much welcomed addition to the Girlboss empire, as the 2014 book already transformed into a hub for women to share their stories by establishing a podcast. Variety reported that Kay Cannon, writer of the "Pitch Perfect" franchise, will act as showrunner of the series. Actress Charlize Theron will be the executive producer.

"Girlboss" follows Amoruso as she began her career by selling vintage clothing items on eBay through her Nasty Gal Vintage label, and turned herself into a fashion mogul by the age of 27.

Netflix is reported to spend $5 billion on programming this year, making the streaming company the second-biggest spender on content buyer after ESPN, Business Insider reported.
