Jakarta. Prominent figures from Indonesia's political and entertainment communities are mourning the loss of Marissa Haque, 61, an accomplished actress and politician, who passed away on Wednesday.

Anies Baswedan, a former Jakarta governor and presidential candidate, fondly remembered Marissa as a talented artist, politician, and academic during a visit to her home in Bintaro, South Tangerang.

He recalled their time studying together in America, noting, "I clearly remember our time in America, where we were all students together."

Anies also mentioned his recent collaboration with Marissa's daughter, Chikita Fawzi, emphasizing the enduring connection with the Haque family.

Rano Karno, a politician and actor, expressed his sadness over Marissa's passing, saying, "She spent most of her time in academia, where she loved to learn." He recalled that Marissa had been actively teaching at a higher education institution in Kemang, South Jakarta, right up until her death, with no apparent signs of illness.

Reflecting on their first collaboration in the film "Kembang Semusim," Rano said, "I knew Marissa since she was young and unmarried. It was a significant moment in both our careers." Despite not seeing each other for over 15 years, Karno expressed deep sorrow and gratitude for Marissa's impact on his life and the film industry.

Marissa's career began in the entertainment industry, where she rose to fame as an actress in the 1980s. Her political journey started in 2004 when she joined the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and was elected to the House of Representatives for West Java. In 2006, she ran for Deputy Governor of Banten with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) but was not elected. In 2007, Marissa switched to the United Development Party (PPP) and later moved to the National Mandate Party (PAN) in 2012.
