Qatar Airways to Start Flights to Surabaya, Medan, Batam and Manado
Jakarta. Qatar Airways has signed an air service agreement to start flights to Surabaya, Medan, Batam and Manado.
"We don't know when exactly, but the door has been opened," said Indonesian Ambassador M. Basri Sidehabi said on Wednesday (29/11).
Qatar Airways chose the three cities because the areas are in line with the market in Qatar. Surabaya is close to Batu, Malang and Mount Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, with its cool weather attracting Qatari tourists.
The ambassador is optimistic that this will bring more economic welfare to the people in the area as Qatar is a country with high income.
According to Tourism Ministry data, average spending per tourist is $1,330.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya thanked the ambassador for his efforts to make Qatar Airways flights to Indonesia a reality, as it will help the country meet its target of attracting 20 million tourists annually by 2019.
