Jakarta. The Indonesian Fashion Designers and Fashion Entrepreneurs Association, or Appmi, in collaboration with the Kota Kasablanka shopping mall, opened "Ramadan Runway" on Friday (02/06).

"We've been collaborating with the mall for five years now. And we're very grateful for the mall's strong commitment in promoting the local modest wear industry." Appmi senior adviser Musa Widyaatmodjo said during a press conference.

"We believe that with a strong support from various stakeholders Indonesia's modest wear industry can grow very rapidly," he added.

Like in the previous years, the event consists of a fashion bazaar, fashion shows, make-up tutorials, hijab-wearing tutorials and tauziah (Islamic teachings sessions).

This year's event, themed "Purity of Ramadan," will be held until July 2.

"This theme reflects the journey of Ramadan, in which every Muslim who fasts during this holy month, will again become pure," Kota Kasablanka senior promotion manager Agung Gunawan said.

In line with the main theme, the stage and the booths are all white, adorned with ornate etchings of the moon and stars.

The bazaar at the mall's fashion atrium features the latest collections of 78 brands affiliated with Appmi.

"We've carefully curated their collections based on their uniqueness, creativity and the quality of craftsmanship," said Rudy Chandra, the chairman of Appmi Jakarta.

Prices at the bazaar start from Rp 250,000 ($18.7) and with each purchase of Rp 500,000, shoppers will get one lucky draw.

"The grand prize will be an umroh pilgrimage package for four persons," Rudy said.

This year's transactions target is Rp 2.5 billion, 20 percent more than last year.

"The event has a great potential. Since the first year, the bazaar has always attracted big crowds. And our members also reported very good sales," Appmi Jakarta vice chairman Ivan Gunawan said.

The fashion shows will be held at 3 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

"Visitors can get a lot of fashion inspirations for Ramadan and Idul Fitri. They can also catch a glimpse of the modest wear trends for 2018," Ivan said.

On the opening night, 22 fashion designers of Appmi Jakarta showcased their mini-collections on the mall's runway. Pop singer Hedi Yunus performed religious songs during the opening.

"This year, every fashion show will also feature a live performance," Ivan said.

All the shows are open for public and free of charge.

The mall expects a 20 percent increase in the number of visitors during the month-long event.

"Our car count is around 100,000 on weekdays and 120,000 on weekends. There are usually three to four people coming in each car," Agung said.

"Inshallah, we'll continue to host 'Ramadan Runway' each year. And hopefully, we'll come up with many more great ideas and attractive offers next year," he added.
