Sail Sabang 2017 Boosts Aceh Culinary Scene
Jakarta. Sail Sabang 2017, Indonesia's biggest sailing event, is a windfall for the culinary scene in Aceh.
"Sail Sabang brings many benefits to the area. The coffee is well-known. Car rentals and homestays are also in demand," Aceh Tourism Agency head Reza Fahlevi on Friday (01/12).
Coffee shops in Sabang are filled with both domestic and foreign tourists, such as in the Tugu Garuda area.
Aceh has been known as a coffee-producing area since colonial times and it is famous for its ulee kareng and gayo coffees. Gayo is internationally considered as a premium coffee.
The coffee is usually served black, in a glass. Other than that, there are also teh tarik, which is tea mixed with milk, and milk coffee.
Acehnese dishes such as noodles, curry and rice, and squid satay, are also popular with visitors.
"Most people come to a place to taste its local cuisine. Hopefully Sail Sabang will bring benefit for local culinary businesses," said Esthy Reko Astuti, deputy for tourism development at the Ministry of Tourism.
