Sequel in Store for Hit 2008 Film 'Ayat-Ayat Cinta'
Jakarta. Film producer and owner of the film production house MD Pictures, Manoj Punjabi, announced a sequel to the successful movie "Ayat-Ayat Cinta" ("The Verses of Love") that was first debuted in 2008, in South Jakarta on Wednesday (08/03).
Adopted from Habibburahman El Shirazy’s second novel of the same title, Manoj said the sequel will be more spectacular than the previous one.
"I am going all out in the production of this film because 'Ayat-Ayat Cinta' is one of our best movies. I have hired a professional director, scriptwriters and cast to ensure that this movie will be successful," he said.
In this sequel, Guntur Soeharjanto will take over Hanung Bramantyo’s position as the director of the film.
"When Manoj approached me to direct this movie, I was afraid that I won’t be able to do it, but after much thought and careful consideration, I decided to challenge myself and prove that I can be part of the success and history of Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2," Guntur said.
Guntur promised that the sequel will be more creative and dynamic under his direction.
"In this sequel, we will explore new places around the world to shoot the movie and we will have some new characters too. This will bring a new environment and energy to the movie," he said.
The filming for the sequel will take place in Jakarta as well as overseas locations including Edinburgh, Oxford and Palestine.
Actor Fedi Nuril will reprise his role as Fahri bin Abdullah in the sequel.
"I am so excited to play Fahri again but I am more excited to see who’s going to be my co-star in the sequel," Fedi said.
Rianti Cartwright will not be returning as Aisha, but Manoj refused to reveal the name of the lead actress in the sequel.
"We are still in the process of selecting the female actress," Manoj said. "It’s going to be a surprise and I ensure that she will be amazing."
Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 will open in cinemas nationwide by the end of this year.
