Jakarta. The Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival, which was held at Batam View Beach Resort in Batam, Riau Islands, on Sept. 30, attracted nearly 400 foreign tourists, especially Singaporeans and Malaysians.
"Hotels around Nongsa are fully booked. There are Singaporeans, expats and permanent residents of Singapore and Malaysia who want to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival in Nongsa, Batam," Batam View Beach Resort general manager Anddy Fong said in a statement on Monday (02/10).
According to Anddy, the festival is the second most important event after Imlek (Chinese New Year) for the Chinese in Batam.
The event featured various activities, including a comedy show, an interactive talkshow, a traditional Javanese gamelan performance, fireworks, performances of Singaporean and Malaysian entertainers, as well as fundraising for Batam's poor.
"In the closing part, lanterns were released at Batam View Beach Resort, carrying good wishes and prayers," said Esthy Reko Astuti, deputy for tourism development at the Ministry of Tourism.
