'Star Wars' Exhibition Awakens Fans' Enthusiasm in Jakarta

DECEMBER 08, 2015

Jakarta. To celebrate the much-anticipated "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the Senayan City shopping mall in South Jakarta recently opened an exhibition on the space saga.

While waiting for the J.J. Abrams-directed feature film to premiere on Dec. 16, Indonesian fans can revel in a replica of the TIE Fighter spacecraft from the movie, which is on display in the mall's main atrium.

Mochtar Sarman, the country director of Walt Disney Indonesia, said the replica was the biggest in Southeast Asia. "The one we display in Changi [Airport in Singapore] is five meters high. This one is seven meters high," he said as quoted by Antara.

The free-entry exhibition also features an interactive wall based on the good-versus-evil philosophy at the heart of the legendary series. By pressing their palm on the monitor, visitors can find out their fate in the "Star Wars" universe, whether they are part of the Resistance (the good side) or the dark First Order.

Visitors can also challenge their gaming acumen by playing the much-talked-about new video game "Star Wars Battlefront" on the available consoles.

A variety of "Star Wars" merchandise can also be purchased at the exhibition, ranging from branded stationery and action figures to clothing and shoes. For the latter, Walt Disney Indonesia collaborated with several local designers, including Populo Batik, Marnova and OWND.
