Taylor Swift Reveals Upcoming Album Release After Series of Cryptic Messages
Jakarta. Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift announced on Wednesday (23/08) on her social media accounts that her new album "Reputation" will be released on Nov. 10, while the album's first single will be launched on Thursday.
Fans will surely breathe a sigh of relief after being kept on edge over the past few days because of Swift’s mysterious disappearance and cryptic teasers.
The mystery began after Swift deleted all entries on her Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts, including her profile pictures, last Friday, just a few days after she won the years-old sexual assault case against radio disc-jokey David Mueller, who groped her in 2013.
The singer's official website was also left blank.
However, according to Buzzfeed, a Reddit user found a JavaScript code running in the website’s background that translated to "that’s what they don’t see." It was not clear what the message entailed, but there was a domain registered at thatswhatyoudontsee.com, which has "TS6 is coming" written on it, indicating that Swift’s sixth studio album would shortly be announced.
Then, on social media, Swift posted two video teasers, both depicting a slithering reptilian tail.
On Wednesday, a similar video was posted, revealing a snake with red eyes. It was followed by other posts announcing the upcoming album, as well as its monochrome cover art, where Swift’s close-up photograph is juxtaposed with newspaper cutouts.
Swift has remained relatively low-key so far this year after releasing a surprise duet with Zayn Malik, titled "I Don’t Want to Live Forever," in December 2016 for the soundtrack of "Fifty Shades Darker." It has also been three years after the pop singer’s last album, "1989," which was named Album of the Year at the 58th Grammy Awards.
