Theater-Inspired Musicians to Debut as Indie Band

Jakarta. Newcomer indie band BackingSoda will release its debut album "Perjalanan" ("Journey") on a digital music steaming platform on Friday, a band member told the Jakarta Globe.
The vocal harmonization group, comprising four vocalists – Ghita Rahmah Meirani, Miranty P. Wardhani, Wulandari Natlia and Ayusya – recently welcomed two guitarists – Hendi Yusup and Putri Raya – to craft the musical arrangements.
The band, which was formed about seven years ago, is now ready to embrace a new musical journey with the release of "Perjalanan."
The songs on the debut album include a variety of feelings and emotions, reflecting the journey of life.
The progressive jazz album shifts from the gloomy ballad "Samar Beku" ("Vaguely Frozen") to "Kehilangan" ("Loss"), which portrays feelings of long-lost love.
With "You're So Divine," it also offers a slow-beat swing song featuring Indonesian indie band Payung Teduh.
Music lovers will most likely be pleased with the pop-rock song "Di Rahim Waktu" ("In the Womb of Time") and two sweet ballads – "Menikmati Hidup" ("Enjoying Life") and "Dewi Khayal" ("Imaginary Goddess").
The members of BackingSoda became musicians for the University of Indonesia's Teater Pagupon in 2006 and they are used to turning scripts into lyrics, hence the poetic and dramatic take.
The band members later decided to venture into the music industry, becoming background singers for Payung Teduh with the release of its second album, "Dunia Batas" ("Limited World") in April 2012. Since then, the group was frequently involved in Payung Teduh's live performances.
It also provided backing vocals for indie bands Bungabel and O.
Expect to hear plenty of full-on vocal harmony in the debut album, which might not be easy to find with other bands.
