Jakarta. Ska band Tipe-X attracted thousands of people to the third Crossborder Concert at Simpang Lima in Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday (27/10).
"This is the third time we are holding a crossborder concert in Atambua. Slank, Jamrud and Coklat were our stars in the previous editions. Tipe-X was performing here for the first time," Esthy Reko Astuti, deputy for tourism development at the Tourism Ministry, said in a statement on Sunday.
X-Friends, the band's fanbase, came from cities across the province, including Kupang, Larantuka, Ende, Waingapu, Sumba and Maumere.
"Audience enjoyed the show. Tipe-X has done a really great job," Esthy said.
The concert started with a traditional performance of likurai dance by Trilolok Dirun dance studio, which was followed by local bands Rai Nakdoko and Galaxy.
The event that began at 7.30 p.m. saw Tipe-X performing 70 minutes, playing their hit songs such as "Genit" ("Flirty"), "Tanda-Tanda Patah Hati" ("Signs of Broken Heart"), "Salam Rindu" ("Missing You").
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that crossborder concerts are in line with the government's target to develop the country's crossborder areas.
Since the beginning of his administration, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has been giving full attention to Indonesians who live in the country's remote regions by organizing numerous tourism events to boost the economy in crossborder areas such as Atambua, Entikong in West Kalimatan and Batam-Bintan in Riau Islands.
