AUGUST 19, 2017

Jakarta. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya officiated at the 30th Aseanta Awards for Excellence at Borobudur Hotel in South Jakarta on Tuesday (08/08).

The prestigious award was given to members of the tourism industry in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in the categories Best Asean Travel Article, Best Asean Tourism Photo, Best Asean Marketing and Promotional Campaign, Best New Asean Tourism Attraction, Best Asean Airline Program and Best Asean Cultural Preservation Effort.

"The Aseanta Award is generally bestowed during the Asean Tourism Forum at the beginning of the year. But this time, it was held [in August]," Association of Air Ticketing Companies in Indonesia (Astindo) secretary general Pauline Suharno said on Monday.

Pauline said all Asean@50 Sky Caravan participants attended the Aseanta Excellence Award, followed by a familiarization trip to various destinations in Indonesia between Aug. 9 and 11.

Indonesia competed against Thailand and the Philippines to host the ceremony. The Aseanta board members, comprising tourism promotion agency representatives from airlines, travel agencies and hotelier associations also attended the event.

Arief said the awards ceremony was crucial to encourage business players in Asean member states to improve the tourism sector in the region.

The awards ceremony was preceded by the Aseanta Meeting, attended by tourism industry players in the region.

It was followed by a gala dinner at City Hall in Central Jakarta, attended by top airline agents, the media and Aseanta board members.
