Tourism Minister Motivates Graduates to Elevate the Industry
Jakarta. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya on Thursday (20/09) encouraged tourism graduates to cooperate in making the tourism industry the leading foreign exchange contributor in Indonesia.
In 2016, tourism foreign exchange reached $13.5 million per year, only behind palm oil, which amounted to $15.9 million per year.
“The tourism industry needs skillful workers to make it a great industry. Be an industry that has great characters, competency and collaboration,” Arief said during his speech in Makassar Tourism Polytechnic graduation ceremony.
The institutional education graduated 257 students, of which 80 percent has already secured jobs. The highest grade point average in the ceremony was 3.92 from scale 0 to 4.
The ministry has invested Rp 64 billion ($448,000) in a five-star hotel in Makassar that is expected to start construction next year.
Arief hoped the hotel will give wider opportunities for tourism students who want to take an internship.
