Tourism Ministry Introduces '10 New Balis' in China
Jakarta. Indonesia's Tourism Ministry took part in China International Travel Mart in Kunming, China, on Sept. 17-19 to promote Indonesian tourist destinations to the Chinese market.
The ministry's "10 New Balis" promotional drive was the highlight of its participation in the travel expo.
The 10 New Balis are the ministry's new priority tourist destinations that include Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur Temple in Yogyakarta and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara.
"Chinese tourists make up the majority of globe travelers now. The Chinese market is around 120 million people strong. But fewer than two percent make it to Indonesia, only around 1.4 million," the ministry's deputy for foreign market development I Gde Pitana said in a statement.
Chinese tourists are fond of beaches and underwater beauty, two things that Indonesia has in abundance, Pitana said.
The Indonesian stand at the Kunming travel expo was decorated with a life-size Phinisi wooden boat and served authentic Indonesian food and drinks.
