Jakarta. The Ministry of Tourism presented the Tourism Awareness Campaign during Sabang Fair in Sabang, Aceh on Oct. 9-12.
The campaign is among the ministry’s priority programs that aim to raise Indonesia’s position in the competitive global market — Indonesia currently ranks 42nd.
“This is an effort to increase the local community capacity through tourism awareness; to prevent things that can interfere with security and comfort in tourist destinations,” Oneng Setya Harini, the deputy assistant of destination governance and community empowerment at the ministry, said in a statement.
The event was attended by 300 participants ranging from representatives of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) and Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies (Asita), entrepreneurs, public figures, homestay managers, pedicab drivers and tourism practitioners.
There was a signing of agreement between the participants to maintain a clean environment in tourist destinations.
Prior to the event, the ministry also conducted a two-day training for homestay managers in Sabang.
