Vinculos Orchestra Performs Around Lake Toba, Boosts Local Tourism
Jakarta. Former Grammy Awards nominees Vinculos Orchestra performed in North Sumatra's Lake Toba on Sunday (30/07), attracting hundreds of tourists to the area.
Vinculos Orchestra director Manuel Paz, performing at the DEL Institute of Technology's amphitheater in Toba Samosir, praised the beauty of the lake and surrounding area.
"Playing the Asturias music here has created a melancholy atmosphere. The cold air around Lake Toba makes us feel that we are in Spain. We have lakes in Spain, but not this big. This is a very beautiful lake," Paz said in his speech.
The orchestra also collaborated with local group Mataniari to perform a traditional Bataknese song, titled "Si Doli Natihal."
"Indonesia is very special, as is the culture of the Bataknese people and Lake Toba. We have something in common with the community here, we both love music and having parties. This is truly a beautiful experience," Paz said.
Vinculos brought in 50 musicians for the event, where they played over five classic Spanish repertoires. The group also rearranged seven local Indonesian songs.
Education and Culture Minister Muhajir Effendi also attended the show and said that his ministry would hold similar collaborations between foreign and domestic musicians in the future.
"We, along with the Ministry of Tourism, will create a joint annual calendar of events. This will allow foreign and domestic tourists to know which areas in Indonesia will hold tourism events. It is our responsibility to promote and produce cultural products, so the Tourism Ministry may build these products as an industry," Muhajir said.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the readiness of regional administrations will also be needed to attract more tourists, especially around Lake Toba, which is part of the ministry's 10 prioritized destinations.
"In 2019, we hope to attract 20 million tourists, as some of them will definitely visit Toba," Arief said.
