VP Kalla Encourages Tourism Development in Sabang
Jakarta. Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed optimism over the prospect of tourism development in Sabang in his speech during the opening of Sail Sabang 2017 at in Aceh on Saturday (02/11).
"There was only trade in Sabang, but now the city is also ready to receive tourists as tourism has become a leading sector in national economy," Kalla said. He added that tourism has become a basic need for people to momentarily disengage from the hustle and bustle of daily routine.
He said Sabang has the potential to become a prominent marine tourism destination with its abundance of scenic beaches and diving sites.
He added that the hospitality of the local people and skillful workers are needed to serve tourists and get them to return.
The main event is a race by approximately 100 domestic and international yachts between Sabang, Phuket (Thailand) and Langkawi (Malaysia), which has been labeled the Golden Triangle.
Sail Sabang 2017 is the ninth iteration of Sail Indonesia, which began in Bunaken, North Sulawesi, in 2009. The also features a freediving competition.
