Wonderful Indonesia Visits Muscat in Oman
Jakarta. The Tourism Ministry will hold the Wonderful Indonesia Festival at Sheraton Muscat in Muscat, Oman, on Oct. 2-6 to introduce tourist attractions in the Southeast Asian country to the Middle Eastern market.
"Tourism industry players from Indonesia and Oman will meet at the event," the ministry's foreign marketing development deputy I Gde Pitana said in a statement.
The ministry will bring four tour operators to the festival: Astadala Tour, Go Indonesia, Tambatan Hati Tour & Travel and Travel in Style.
Traditional Indonesian dances will be performed at the festival, including Bajidor — a mix of Sundanese Jaipong and Balinese dance, Gebyar Bali, Galenyek from West Sumatra and Lenggang Betawi from Jakarta.
According to Nia Niscaya, the ministry’s assistant deputy for the European, Middle Eastern, American and African markets, the Middle Eastern market is potentially huge, since every traveler from the Middle East spends on average $1,190 when he or she goes overseas.
"We want to target families from countries in the Middle East who usually travel for up to three months during summer," Nia said.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the festival will highlights tourist destinations in Indonesia that have won the World Best Halal Destination awards, including Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara and Padang in West Sumatra.
According to data from the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI), Indonesia is the fourth most favorite halal destination out of 57 member states in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
