Asian Olympic Council Visits To Inspect for 2018 Games
Jakarta. A delegation from the Olympic Council of Asia is visiting Indonesia this week to inspection preparations expected now to be underway at venues across the greater Jakarta area and in Palembang, South Sumatra, ahead of the 2018 Asian Games, which Indonesia will host.
The inspection started in the Jakarta International Expo convention center in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, followed by a visit to Bumi Serpong Damai in Banten, before returning again to Central Jakarta for an inspection of the historic Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex.
There, members of the delegation surveyed the main indoor stadium, known as Istora Senayan, as well as the indoor tennis stadium and swimming pool. After the inspection, the delegation will meet in a closed session and announce its findings at a press conference, expected to be held today.
Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) president Rita Subowo said that after surveying venues in Jakarta, the delegation would also visit Palembang and West Java.
“We will also invite technical delegates from every sport to come and give comments and suggestions to each venue we prepare,” Rita said.
“So, we will get all information on what kind of improvements we must add for the venues.”
Rita said preparations for the games will require a lot of hard work.
“We know that we need to renovate most of the buildings expected to be used as venues. We also have to build two new venues, a velodrome for cycling and a swimming pool.”
The OCA and KOI will meet every six months to ensure progress is on schedule.
“There will be evaluation in every OCA visit,” KOI official Ade Lukman said.
“So, we will work based on the evaluation report to make improvement. With such work flow, both OCA and Indonesia can track the progress of our preparation.”
Meanwhile, senior Sports Ministry official Gatot Dewo Broto said the presidential decree on the 2018 Asian Games preparation would be signed soon, to give an overview on how far Indonesia has progressed in the preparation
