Jakarta. Dunia Games, the online gaming portal of Telkomsel, the country's largest mobile network provider, will hold a series of esports tournaments leading up to a grand final at the 2019 Indonesia Games Championship.
Dunia Games will be hosting three gaming events this year; the Dunia Games League, Dunia Games Campus League and the Dunia Games Pro League, with a total prize pool of Rp 3 billion ($200,000).
"In the face of the growing esports industry in Indonesia, Dunia Games is showing its support for the industry through the Dunia Games Esports League," Telkomsel marketing director, Alistair Johnston, said in a press release on Wednesday.
"We want this event to be a place where [Telkomsel] customers and gamers can gather and create a digital entertainment ecosystem in the country," he said.
"Online gaming services need high-speed and low-latency networks; therefore, we're always improving our broadband 4G LTE network to provide stable connections. More than 60 million of Telkomsel's customers play online mobile games," Alistair said.
The Dunia Games League will be held simultaneously in 141 cities. Thirteen winning teams will go on to compete in the grand finals at the Dunia Games Esports Stadium in Jakarta next year.
"The Dunia Games Esports League will have more than 6,000 teams competing in 24,000 matches, making this the biggest esports tournament in Indonesia this year," said Crispin Tristram, head of digital lifestyle at Telkomsel.
