Sean Gelael Earns First Point in 2017 Formula 2 Championship
Jakarta. Indonesian Sean Gelael of the Pertamina Arden Formula Two team secured his first championship point of the season by finishing 10th in a feature race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, on Saturday (08/07).
The 20-year-old started from 15th place on the grid before capturing the 10th position in the 40-lap race, earning him one point at the end. He is now 17th in the F2 drivers' standings.
"Hard work paid off. I'm glad, even though it's only one point," Sean said in a statement.
Sean finished 11th in the sprint race on Sunday after having gone up to fifth position before being pushed back of 18th following a collision with competitor Nicholas Latifi. He did not earn any points from Sunday's race, as only the top eight finishers qualify.
Sean's teammate Norman Nato meanwhile failed to reach the finish line on Saturday due to engine problems. However, the Frenchman managed to recover in the sprint race on Sunday by finishing seventh in the 28-lap race.
Nato earned two points, which places him in eighth position in the drivers' standings.
The two Pertamina Arden drivers will compete in the sixth round of the F2 series at Silverstone, England, on Saturday.
