Film Maker Garin Nugroho Branches Out With Aussie-Backed Silent Film
Jakarta. After showcasing his new film at the Busan International Film Festival last week, award-winning director Garin Nugroho heads back to the post production studio to continue working on his new film, "Setan Jawa," or "The Ghost of Java."
Garin spoke of his aim to expand on his work after a media gathering in Jakarta last week with the cast and crew of "Chaotic Love Poems," before they departed to South Korea.
"After 30 years in film making, I wanted to experiment with different kinds of films," he said. "I am currently working on 'Setan Jawa,' a black and white, silent film, with the Melbourne Art Center."
The Australian agency is funding the production of "Setan Jawa," which is currently entering its post production phase.
The movie's score will be provided by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Garin said.
"[The experience of watching 'Setan Jawa'] will be similar to the screening of 'Metropolis,'" Garin said, referring to the opening night of the German Season in Cikini, Jakarta, last month.
"Setan Jawa" will be released in 2016.
