Jakarta. Pixar's biggest hit "Inside Out" as well as its latest blockbuster from the "Despicable Me" franchise "Minions" have been submitted for consideration in the best animated feature film category for the 88th Academy Awards held in 2016.
A total of 16 features have joined the race for top animation film in next year's Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Science in California said in a statement on Friday.
While some of the motion pictures making the cut, such as "Home" and "Shaun the Sheep Movie," have already received international acclaim, others – such as "Anomalisa" and "The Good Dinosaur"– have yet to fulfill their required qualifying run.
Submitted features adhere to qualifying rules-and-release requirements before they can advance in the voting process. Each submission must be released in theaters within the Los Angeles County area within the calendar year to be eligible.
A maximum of five animated feature films can make the final nominations list for the Oscars.
Nominations for the 88th Academy Awards will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 14. The Oscars will take place on Sunday, Feb. 28 at Dolby Theater in Hollywood, and will be broadcasted in more than 225 countries worldwide.
