New Matahari Outlet in Lippo Mall Kemang Presents Modern Concept
Jakarta. Matahari Department Store, Indonesia's largest department store chain, inaugurated its 147th outlet in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Thursday (29/09), presenting customers with a new, modern concept.
Occupying three floors in Lippo Mall Kemang, a community lifestyle shopping center owned by the Lippo Group, the new Matahari outlet offers customers a wide array of fashion and lifestyle products in its 8,000-square-meter shopping area. The department store chain targets middle-income earners.
Top executives, including MDS chief executive Richard Gibson, witnessed the inauguration.
"We believe our presence in this mall can be mutually beneficial," Matahari corporate secretary and legal director Miranti Hadisusilo said in a statement on Thursday. "The presence of Matahari at Lippo Mall Kemang is expected to have a positive impact on the surrounding area. More than 450 workers from the area are employed at this outlet. This indeed helps to create job opportunities for young people in the area. It ultimately helps improve the welfare and quality of life in the community."
The new outlet differs from Matahari's other outlets as it offers a wider display window area and it also provides more comfort and better services.
"If you visit other Matahari outlets, indeed, you will notice that there is a difference with regards to the look of how merchandise is displayed in this outlet. This is because we adjusted to the market segment in this area and seek to offer a different shopping experience to our loyal customers," MDS store operations director Sunny Setiawan said.
The Kemang area is known for upmarket residential properties, from landed housing to strata title complexes.
Supported by more than 160 suppliers from several regions in Indonesia, Matahari offers a wide range of fashion products, including accessories, cosmetics and household items, for women, men, children and adults.
Matahari offered marketing gimmicks to customers at its newest outlet, which included a shopping voucher worth Rp 500,000 ($38) to each of the first 500 shoppers, 4,000 shopping vouchers worth Rp 100,000 each for members of Lippo Mall Kemang and a lucky draw voucher, worth Rp 9 million.
The outlet in Lippo Mall Kemang is Matahari's 21st in Jakarta and its fifth to open this year. The department store chain has been aggressively adding new outlets, with a target of opening between eight and 10 every year.
MDS previously inaugurated new outlets in Metropolitan Mall in Cileungsi in Bogor district, West Java, Lippo Plaza Jambi (Jambi), Tanjung Pinang City Center (Riau Islands) and Sunrise Mall Mojokerto (East Java).
The department store chain said every new outlet costs the company between Rp 30 billion and Rp 40 billion. All the new outlets it plans to open will be financed with internal cash.
MDS booked Rp 16 trillion in gross sales last year, up from Rp 14.5 trillion in 2014.
Matahari Department Store and the Jakarta Globe are both affiliated with the Lippo Group.
