Agrikulture Electrified: Electropop Legends Go on Asean Tour
Jakarta. After releasing a new album on Indonesia Record Store Day earlier this year, electropop legends Agrikulture will now go on a tour of Malaysia and Singapore dubbed the "Agrikulture Electrified Asean Tour 2018."
According to a press release, the band will share a stage with Malaysian selector Lionel Rizky at Live Fact Kuala Lumpur on Nov. 13 and then with Disko Santan at Fono in the same city on the following day.
The band will play a live session for Singapore Community Radio on Nov. 15 and then at the White Label Records studio in Singapore.
Agrikulture, formed by Anton Wirjono (DJ Anton) and DJ Aditya in 2003, started off their career by remixing Indonesian pop songs and playing live sets in clubs.
Not long after, Anton's little brother Hogi joined the band after returning from San Fransisco.
This was when the group started incorporating bigger, more complicated decks, FX DJ sets and sophisticated digital sounds in their performances.
More musical exploration followed as two new members, Irfandy (lead vocals) and Emil Pahlevi (guitar), joined the ever-expanding band.
The band scored a chart topping hit in 2006 with their remix of The Safari's "Disko Di Rumah" ("Disco In Your House") and turned heads with their electrifying live performances.
In 2011, the band went through big changes. Once a group of beat-happy DJs who performed in Jakarta’s hippest dance clubs, the band started to embrace a new, poppier sound.
Their tunes got catchier and the dance hooks went awol.
Anton and Hogi left the band after releasing the "Terang Benderang" ("Shining Brightly") album in the same year.
The two brothers never went away completely, remaining as executive producers for the band in subsequent projects.
Agrikulture have collaborated with some of the biggest names in Indonesian music, including Kartika Jahja, Ari Lasso, Indra Lesmana, Krisdayanti, Rif, Shanty and Syaharani.
In 2009, the band opened for the Prodigy in Jakarta and also opened for the American indie pop band Foster the People in 2012.
The band was also nominated for Best Alternative Act and Best Dance Act in the 2006 Anugerah Musik Indonesia (Indonesian Music Awards).
After going through numerous personnel changes, Agrikulture is now made up of Fandy DFMC (vocals, synths), Hogi Wirjono (making his comeback as a DJ) and Ade Koestomo (percussions).
The band still hopes to attract a wider audience with their catchier, pop-inspired songs, which will dominate the set lists of their Asean tour.
