Maluku Artists to Kick Off Glenn Fredly Concert in Hometown of Ambon
Jakarta. Ethnic music and dances will open musician Glenn Fredly’s 20th anniversary concert in Ambon, Maluku, later this month.
Henry Sopacua, the head of the Ambon Culture and Tourism Agency, told Antara on Monday that city officials had met with the singer’s management to discuss the arrangement. Local performers will take to the stage for an hour before the Ambon-born R&B star takes over.
“We are taking part in his concert because we wish to showcase the talents of local artists in Maluku; we hope they will add a different nuance to Glenn’s concert,” Henry said.
He also confirmed that the show would go ahead as scheduled on Nov. 21. Last month, Glenn told reporters that the show might be postponed because of delays in obtaining a permit from the police.
“We’re having troubles with the permit because this is the first time Ambon has hosted such a big concert,” the 40-year-old told Kompas on Oct. 18. “Last year, we screened the movie ‘Cahaya dari Timur: Beta Maluku’ in Ambon and the mayor phoned me up because it was the first time that the police had had to guard the ticket queue for a movie screening.”
Glenn is celebrating his 20 years in the music industry with a nationwide tour of 20 cities.
