19-Year-Old Student Arrested for Planning Suicide Bomb Attack in East Java

Jakarta.  The Indonesian National Police's counterterrorism unit, Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), has arrested a 19-year-old student, identified by the initials HOK, who is linked to the Islamic State (Daulah Islamiyah) and was plotting a suicide bomb attack.

Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Division of the National Police, confirmed that HOK was apprehended on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. Jakarta time on Jalan Langsep, Kelurahan Sisir, Batu District, Malang, East Java.

"The suspect is known to be a sympathizer of the Islamic State," Trunoyudo said on Thursday.

Trunoyudo further disclosed that HOK intended to execute a suicide bombing using Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP) at two religious sites in Malang.

Densus 88's next steps include securing the suspect and evidence, conducting a search at the suspect's residence, and carrying out further interrogations and investigations.

HOK faces potential penalties of up to 15 years in prison or even life imprisonment.
