31 Chinese Nationals Nabbed for Cyber Fraud, Immigration Violations

JUNE 21, 2016

Jakarta. At least 31 Chinese nationals were arrested for alleged cyber fraud and immigration violations in a raid in Bogor, West Java, on Monday evening (20/06).

Bogor Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Andi Herindra said the Chinese nationals – comprising 22 men and nine women – were nabbed during a raid at a rented house in the Villa Duta housing complex on Jalan Kingkilaban in East Bogor subdistrict.

"We conducted the raid after receiving tipoffs from residents about suspicious activities at the home," Andi said, as reported by Antara news agency.

He said the police will charge the Chinese nationals for cyber fraud and immigration violations, as they were not in possession of the correct permits allowing them to be in Indonesia.

"At this time, we cannot tell you their motive and activities [related to cyber fraud]. The National Police will handle the investigation," Andi added.

Initial investigations revealed that the arrested persons had been in the country illegally for five months already.
