5.7-Magnitude Quake Hits Southwest Maluku

Jakarta. A 5.7-magnitude quake hit Southwest Maluku on Monday at 2.07 p.m.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the quake was monitored at the coordinates of 8.00 south latitude, 127.89 east longitude, with a depth of 23 km.

"The quake's epicenter was at sea, 20 km northeast of Southwest Maluku," BMKG announced on their official website.

A weak shaking was felt in Moa, with a scale-III modified mercalli intensity (MMI) reading. The tremor was also slightly felt in Damer at a scale II to III of MMI.


BMKG said the quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. They also called for citizens to remain cautious for any aftershock in the region.

"Be careful of aftershocks that might occur," BMKG said.
