Man Arrested for Hate Speech, Claiming Jokowi Backs Communists
Jakarta. A fake academic, Muhammad Tamim Pardede, who calls himself "Professor Tamim Pardede" has been arrested for spreading hate speech on YouTube.
In a video, Tamim claimed that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and the government are protecting communists.
"Police arrested the perpetrator on Tuesday (06/06) at 00.05 a.m. in Tangerang [Banten]. He is 45 years old and lives in South Jakarta's Setiabudi,"cyber crime director at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) Brig. Gen. Fadil Imran said in Jakarta.
Police have also collected evidence, including a laptop and a mobile phone. Tamim is charged with violating the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.
Earlier, Tamim was in the spotlight for claiming to be a professor at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). LIPI has asserted his claims to be false in a press release and on its website on Feb. 28.
In social media, Tamim said he was a molecular biochemist and the head of research at Amanah Semesta Alam, a biochemical company. He also said that his inventions, including diesel fuel from a mixture of cooking oil and water, are of great benefit to the public.
