Jakarta. Musician Ahmad Dhani was unable to hide his resentment after being forced to cancel a concert in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, building in Jakarta on Thursday (02/06).

Dhani, accompanied by human rights activist Ratna Sarumpaet, had planned to hold a protest concert against Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, known as Ahok, with a mass group "Orang Kita" ("Our People").

He intended to call on the anti-graft agency to conclude investigations for several cases allegedly involving the governor, including the North Jakarta reclamation project and Sumber Waras Hospital cases, and name him suspect.

However, the Jakarta Police denied the plan and arrested several of Dhani’s employees who brought in sound system trucks, after refusing to hold the concert at the new KPK Building — which is still empty — near the current one.

“We only want to protest where the KPK commissioners are working, not an empty one,” Dhani said.

The founder of famous rock band Dewa 19, hit back at the police reasoning the protest would cause traffic disturbances, pointing out that protests commonly disturb traffic.

“All these times, many protests have disturbed traffic. It can’t be a reason,” Dhani said, adding he wanted to confirm information he received about the reclamation and Sumber Waras case.

According to Dhani, an informer inside the anti-graft agency had named Basuki a suspect in the two cases. However, the KPK has not clarified the information.
