Jakarta. Incumbent city governor team Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and deputy Djarot Saiful Hidayat are the most-talked about candidate pair on social media ahead of next year's gubernatorial poll, social media monitor PoliticaWave found.
PoliticaWave provides real-time data on social media conversations around the Jakarta gubernatorial poll and found that as of Tuesday morning (04/10), Basuki and Djarot have captured the largest share of the conversation dominating 66.4 percent, or mentioned 96,937 times.
Challengers Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno came second with 23.8 percent, featuring in 34,384 social media conversations, followed by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni on just 9.8 percent with 14,821 mentions.
PoliticaWave founder Yose Rizal said the monitoring also measures sentiment within conversations in a metric dubbed "net sentiment." It gauges the gap between neutral or positive conversations and the negative. The larger the net sentiment index, the more positive opinions on candidate pairs.
Basuki and Djarot led the net sentiment rank on 6,877, followed by Agus and Sylviana on 4.429.
Surprisingly, Anies, a popular formed education minister, and Sandiaga, a high profile business leader, ranked third with -1,429 net sentiment, meaning negative comments outweighed the positive.
Yose said social media monitoring during the 2014 presidential and legislative elections, as well as the 2015 regional elections, found the winning candidate pairs were those who had created the largest share of awareness coupled with top net sentiment.
“The result today is temporary and possible to see dynamic changes until the voting day,” he added.
The data was collected from Facebook, Twitter, blogs, news outlets, video sharing websites and various messaging boards since the candidate pairs officially submitted candidacies to the electoral commission on Sept. 23.
