Ahok-Djarot to Win in a Landslide, Poll Says

OCTOBER 06, 2016

Jakarta. Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat could win next year's Jakarta gubernatorial election by a landslide, a new poll published on Thursday (06/10) said.

The poll was done by Jakarta-based Populi Center and showed that 45.5 percent of its 600 respondents favored the incumbents over the other nominees, former education minister Anies Baswedan and his running mate businessman Sandiaga Uno, and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's eldest son Agus Harimurti and running mate Sylviana Murni, one of Ahok's lieutenants at City Hall.

"Nearly 80 percent of the respondents who root for Ahok-Djarot are loyal voters, they are unlikely to change their mind," Populi Center director Usep Saepul Ahyar said.

According to the poll, 23.5 percent of the respondents — 51.8 percent of them also loyal voters  — said they would vote for Anies-Sandiaga. 15.8 percent — 49.5 percent of them loyal voters — said they would pick Agus-Sylviana.

Around 15 percent of the respondents said they were still undecided.

"In the next two to three months, we won't see any major change in numbers. Most of these respondents are loyal voters," political analyst Ali Munhanif said.
