MARCH 08, 2017

Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama will kick off his campaign for the run-off Jakarta election on Wednesday (08/03) after attending another session of his blasphemy trial on Tuesday.

Ahok and running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat, as well as rivals Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, were given the green light by the Jakarta Election Commission (KPUD) to start their campaign on Tuesday, but Ahok decided to postpone his because of the trial.

"No campaigning for today. We didn't know how long my trial would last," Ahok said after the hearing at a makeshift courtroom in the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters in South Jakarta.

Ahok made no comment on the progress of his trial, which on Tuesday featured three witnesses defending him.

One of Ahok's lawyers, Teguh Samudra, said they will summon four more defense witnesses when the trial continues on Tuesday next week.

Ahok’s defense team has prepared 29 witnesses and experts to speak at his blasphemy trial.
