Jakarta. Veronica Tan, the former wife of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, popularly known as Ahok, was among the ministerial candidates interviewed by President-elect Prabowo Subianto on Monday evening.

Veronica hinted at her potential role in Prabowo’s cabinet, saying it would involve working to support mothers and children.

"As for the rest, I’ll wait for the official announcement from the president," Veronica said after the meeting at Prabowo’s private residence in South Jakarta.

"Let’s work together to help the people, mothers, and children. I told him, ‘I’m ready!’ but let’s wait for Mr. President’s announcement," she added.

Veronica first drew widespread public attention during the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, when her then-husband, Ahok, was running for reelection. His campaign was overshadowed by protests from hardline Muslim groups and clerics opposing his leadership.

Ahok ultimately lost the election and was sentenced to two years in prison for blasphemy. While in prison in 2018, he filed for divorce from Veronica, citing infidelity, ending their 21-year marriage. The couple has three teenage children.

Since his release, Ahok has joined the PDI-P and supported the party's candidate, Ganjar Pranowo, in the February presidential election, where Ganjar ran against Prabowo.
