Depok. Ari Kuncoro was inaugurated as the new chancellor of University of Indonesia, or UI, on Wednesday. He will hold the post at one of Indonesia's oldest and most prestigious universities until 2024.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by other members of the board, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
Education Minister Nadiem Makarim also attended the event.
Ari was the dean of the university's School of Economics and Business Studies prior to being appointed as chancellor.
He beat two other candidates, Abdul Haris and Budi Wiweko, in a tight selection process from May to September.
The candidates were assessed on their professional, non-discriminatory, accountability and transparency records.
