Arief Budiman Named New KPU Chairman for 2017-2022
Jakarta. The General Election Commission, or KPU, has named Arief Budiman as its new chairman for 2017-2022 after a plenary meeting on Wednesday (12/04).
Arief — a former member of the East Java Election Commission (KPUD) until 2013 — said the meeting, though lasting more than nine hours, was amicable.
"No one was fighting for the position. We just discussed who is most suited to the position and made our decision," Arief said.
He added the KPU's immediate task is to see the 2017 regional elections to completion. After that, it will focus on preparations for the 2018 simultaneous regional elections and the 2019 general elections.
Arief has an extensive experience in staging elections in Indonesia from his two terms with East Java’s KPUD.
